The Darebin Creek Froggers have been monitoring frogs living along the Darebin Creek since 2002. Every Spring and Autumn the Froggers meet up to record frogs for Melbourne Water's Frog Census. The calls of frogs are used to identify frog species and how many are living in a given location. The Froggers are not experts, but rather a group of people who are interested in the frogs that live in the local area.

Frogs living along the Darebin Creek and associated wetlands that the Froggers have recorded include:

Common Froglet

Eastern Banjo Frog

Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog*

Ewing's Tree Frog

Growling Grass Frog

Peron's Tree Frog

Spotted Marsh Frog

Striped Marsh Frog

*The Eastern Dwarf Tree Frog is native to Queensland and northern NSW, they have traveled to Melbourne via fruit boxes or tropical plants

The Froggers received an Environment Grant from Banyule City Council to buy digital recording equipment and a water quality testing kit to help us accurately monitor frogs and the water quality of their environment. This equipment is available for community members to borrow.

Get involved: A number of frog events are held in the Darebin Creek Catchment every year. The best way to find out what events are happening is to join the mailing list by emailing info@dcmc.org.au
